How is Energy Umpire paid?

We have a free service and a fee for service.  The fee, where you decide to pay is paid directly by you, the customer.  We do not accept any payments from suppliers.

How impartial is Energy Umpire?

We are fearless in presenting objective comparisons of all retailer offers that are available publicly. Please contact us if you think we have missed an offer.

Is the delivery of my bill secure?

Yes. When you set up your service we automate the redirection of your energy umpire email to the billing email that you have nominated. We also check that you are receiving such emails.

Can I cancel the service?

Yes at any time. You advise your supplier to use your normal email address instead of the energy umpire email address.  If you are a paying customer, please advise us by email that you wish to discontinue your service.

What makes Energy Umpire different from comparison services?

Other comparison services act for their select group of suppliers. They get paid for each switch at the rate agreed with the supplier.  They often don’t have the best deals available.

We provide accurate and impartial advice on the best suppliers, plans and rates based on all available plans while getting you access to many plans that are only available privately.

We enter your bill details for you. Others require you to enter the information or make heroic assumptions from scant information.

When you provide your bill we provide accurate information on your savings, because we extract the prices you are actually paying based on your bill.

We provide you with a written report that we stand by, not just a verbal recommendation by a salesperson.

How does Energy Umpire know about all the retailer offers that are available?

We use information published by the Government and regulators that we update regularly.

How does Energy Umpire estimate my offers from my bill?

Using our sophisticated modelling we perform calculations from information gathered from your bill.

We have a comprehensive database of retailer offers.

We extract information on consumption, tariff structure, prices and distribution company from your bill.

For residential customers we estimate your annual consumption and seasonal usage. We use information gathered for the Government by Acil Tasman.

From the information we gather we calculate your estimated costs with your current provider and your savings, if any, with the alternative offers.

We don’t make allowances for any contract termination payment that you may incur by switching as we have no way of knowing what applies in individual cases.  However in nearly all cases, these are immaterial.

How does Energy Umpire estimate my offers without my bill?

Using our sophisticated modeling for residential customers we perform calculations from the information you provide us.

We estimate your consumption, tariff structure and assign a distribution company based on your address.

We have a comprehensive database of retailer offers.

We estimate your annual consumption and seasonal usage. We use information gathered for the Government by Acil Tasman as the basis for estimating your usage pattern over the year.

Who is Energy Umpire?

Energy Umpire is as a 100% Australian owned service. It was conceived and developed by Alan Rattray, who has 30 years of experience at a senior management and Board level in energy. After decades in the industry he wanted to give ordinary customers the benefit of his experience and offer a genuine impartial and high quality service based firmly on the interests of ordinary customers.
